On 26th and 27th June 2023, the magnificent Empire Hotel played host to an intellectually stimulating gathering – the International Conference of Islamic Universities. Jointly organised by UNISSA and AIUA, the event was nothing short of a testament to the dynamic blend of Islamic values and contemporary education.
I had the privilege of participating in this esteemed conference and presenting a paper that holds significant value to me. Co-authored with my esteemed co-researcher, Dr Norashikin Yusof, our paper explored the intricate topic of integrating Islamic values within the realm of science teaching. Delving into such a profound subject amidst a congregation of erudite minds was an experience to be cherished.
While the act of presenting was itself an enriching journey, the lessons I imbibed from fellow presenters were invaluable. The presentations were a tapestry of diverse perspectives, all seeking to find the perfect confluence between Islamic teachings and the ever-evolving world of academia. Each paper, each discussion threw light on the myriad ways Islamic values continue to shape, inspire, and elevate our educational paradigms.
Furthermore, the networking opportunities were immensely fruitful. I had the pleasure of connecting with fellow academics, both from Brunei and further afield. Engaging with international participants, especially those from Indonesia and Malaysia, broadened my horizons and provided fresh insights into the symbiotic relationship between faith and pedagogy.
In retrospect, the International Conference of Islamic Universities was not just an academic event; it was a celebration of knowledge, faith, and collaboration. As I left the Empire Hotel at the end of the second day, I was imbued with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Islamic academia.
I remain grateful for the insights gained, the connections made, and the inspiration drawn from this monumental conference. The fusion of Islamic values and science teaching has, and will continue to be, a cornerstone of my academic pursuits.
