Module Synopsis
The module aims to provide the MTeach candidates with the necessary pedagogical content knowledge, competencies and skills to develop effective teaching of primary science in Brunei Darussalam. In this module, MTeach candidates will learn the concept of scientific literacy and the nature of science, the different theories of teaching primary science, the curriculum of primary science education and the scheme of work/ themes that are present in the primary science curriculum.
Students will learn the basic tenets of what is science, the nature of science (NoS), the 7E’s of inquiry-based science education, lesson planning and STEM education. MTeach candidate will discuss the current issues of primary science teaching and learning and learn different strategies for teaching primary science. Students will design STEM lessons and implement them in schools. They will also reflect on their lessons and suggest ways to improve the teaching and learning of primary science education in Brunei.
Teaching Methods
Students are taught using a diverse methods of teaching which include lectures, class discussion, group work/peer, formative feedback, presentation as well as role playing for training students in teaching using 7E’s and dialogic teaching. There is a lot of modelling in order to equip students to do primary science teaching using inquiry based science education and STEM education.
Assessment Strategies
Students are assessed individually if the numbers of MTeach candidates are low. However, they will be assessed in groups and individually if there are more than 20 students in the module.
